Penn State World Campus has built an island in Second Life for our online learners to connect with Penn State—and each other—outside of their courses.
Second Life is an online virtual world where you create an avatar (a graphical representation of yourself) to use as you travel throughout Second Life and meet other people. There is no cost to download Second Life and select an avatar.
Pictured at left is the virtual Hintz Family Alumni Center, home to the World Campus Advising Center.
World Campus academic advising sessions are via private chat, and students who have access to a microphone can also communicate via voice technology. Meeting with an adviser in Second Life is almost like meeting for a "face-to-face" appointment.

Once you are on the island, follow the tutorial in our orientation area, and then feel free to explore! World Campus staff members will be wearing blue Penn State shirts and khaki pants.
