Master's Degree

Homeland Security Base Program (Master of Professional Studies)
Learn from one of the first and most comprehensive homeland security programs. Students may complete the base program or choose from a diverse range of specialization options — all designed to develop highly-trained future leaders in roles that include national security.
Homeland Security – Agricultural Biosecurity and Food Defense Option (Master of Professional Studies)
Gain the skills to help defend against natural and manmade threats to our agriculture and food supply chain. This option builds a fundamental understanding of homeland security issues with an emphasis on food science, plant protection, and animal security.
Homeland Security – Counterterrorism Option (Master of Professional Studies)
Build an understanding of terrorist organizations and their motives, threats, recruitment strategies, and operational tactics. This option also covers the evolution of counterterrorism in the U.S. and abroad.
Homeland Security – Cyber Threat Analytics and Prevention Option (Master of Professional Studies)
Acquire a broad base of knowledge relevant to the current policies and programs of the homeland security administration with a focus on preventing cyber attacks and understanding cyber laws.
Homeland Security – Geospatial Intelligence Option (Master of Professional Studies)
Focus on mapping, management, and analysis of geographic data as you learn to identify and assess potential threats, vulnerabilities, and consequences within a geospatial context.
Homeland Security – Information Security and Forensics Option (Master of Professional Studies)
Prepare for a career in areas such as information assurance engineering, risk management and analysis, computer systems security analysis, information security/digital forensics, intelligence analysis, and systems integration and networks.
Homeland Security – Public Health Preparedness Option (Master of Professional Studies)
Learn to respond efficiently and effectively to natural and man-made disasters. The MPS in Homeland Security – Public Health Preparedness Option is the only homeland security program in the country using curriculum from a medical school, the Penn State College of Medicine.

Agricultural Biosecurity and Food Defense (Graduate Certificate)
Learn to develop and implement safety measures to prevent or manage biological threats. This unique 12-credit program is offered by Penn State's renowned College of Agricultural Science as part of the Homeland Security Program, one of the most respected programs of its kind in the U.S.
Counterterrorism (Graduate Certificate)
Gain the skills to implement proactive counterterrorism policies and effectively respond to potential or realized acts of terror. Credits earned in this program may be applied to the MPS in Homeland Security – Counterterrorism Option.
Cyber Threat Analytics and Prevention (Graduate Certificate)
Enhance your understanding of cyber attacks, laws, and terrorism, as well as network vulnerabilities, system threats, and surveillance protocols. The 12 credits earned in this certificate may be applied toward the MPS in Homeland Security – Cyber Threat Analytics and Prevention Option.
Geospatial Intelligence Analytics (Graduate Certificate)
Gain an understanding of how GIS facilitates data analysis and communication to address common problems. This USGIF–accredited program can prepare students to pursue opportunities in the rapidly-growing geospatial analytics market.
Geospatial Intelligence Applications (Postbaccalaureate Certificate)
Gain an introduction to the theory, methodologies, and ethics behind the professional application of geospatial intelligence. This 13-credit program is designed for students with little or no experience in this area, to help them learn how to apply analytical skills in ways that can solve problems related to national security, disaster response, or industrial challenges.
Homeland Security (Graduate Certificate)
Gain an understanding of homeland security issues that apply at all levels of government, as well as in the private sector. The 12 credits earned in this certificate may be applied toward the Master of Professional Studies in Homeland Security Base Program.
Hospital and Health System Preparedness (Graduate Certificate)
Learn valuable skills needed to protect the critical infrastructure of hospitals, medical facilities, and emergency management systems. The credits earned in this program may be applied toward the Master of Professional Studies in Homeland Security – Public Health Preparedness Option.
Information Systems Cybersecurity (Postbaccalaureate Certificate)
Build your knowledge of network security, risk management, digital forensics, crisis and disaster management, and web security and privacy. Credits you earn in this program may be applied to the MPS in Homeland Security – Information Security and Forensics Option.
Public Health Preparedness (Graduate Certificate)
