When Andrea Tapia, dean of the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST), assembled her leadership team during her first year, she prioritized expertise, perspective, and alignment with the college’s interdisciplinary mission. The fact that the team of associate deans was composed entirely of women is especially significant in a field where women remain underrepresented in leadership positions within higher education, technology, and information sciences. Only 25% of the tech workforce are women, and the disparity is even greater in tech leadership, with just 11% of executive roles held by women. These appointments reflect both a shift in what leadership looks like in STEM-related disciplines and a tangible example of how diverse voices and experiences can shape strategy, innovation, and culture.
