Krystal Lutz grew up dreaming of graduating from Penn State. She set that goal at age 8, but after years of life changes, she thought it might never happen. She proved it was possible thanks to Penn State World Campus.
Balancing work and school
Working full-time as head of security at an Amazon site, Lutz needed a program that fit her demanding schedule and her learning style.
“I learn best at my own pace, and Penn State World Campus gave me that flexibility,” she said. “It let me balance a full-time job with being a full-time student.”
Lutz enrolled in the criminal justice bachelor’s degree program with a minor in forensic psychology, a passion sparked when she would read about high-profile criminal cases as a child.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the psychology behind crime,” she said. “This degree gave me the chance to turn that interest into something meaningful.”
Achieving a lifelong goal
Lutz’s journey wasn’t easy. In her final semester, she juggled six classes and a promotion at work while maintaining a 3.6 GPA and earning a spot on the Dean’s List.
“This is the biggest achievement of my life, short of raising my children,” Lutz said. “It took discipline and sacrifice, but it was worth every moment.”
For Lutz, graduating from Penn State is more than a credential — it’s the fulfillment of a promise she made to herself decades ago.
“I’ve looked at my cap and gown so many times,” she said. “It’s surreal to know that after 41 years of saying I would graduate from Penn State, it’s finally happening.”
