Become a Leader in Solar Energy Development
With solar energy becoming an increasingly important aspect of the green economy, demand continues to grow for professionals who understand resource assessment, project development, system design, and energy economics for both solar thermal and solar electric systems.
If you have a bachelor's degree in renewable energy and sustainability systems or a related field of study, this program is an excellent way to continue your education. A background in systems science, engineering, or physics is strongly recommended if you are interested in this degree option.
Why an Online Solar Energy Degree from Penn State?
Penn State World Campus offers an online intercollege Master of Professional Studies in Renewable Energy and Sustainability Systems (iMPS-RESS) with an option in solar energy through a strong partnership between four colleges and eight academic departments. It offers you the opportunity to benefit from the expertise and unique perspectives of faculty with diverse backgrounds in renewable energy.
Your RESS Solar Energy Curriculum
Along with following a core curriculum focused on renewable energy and sustainability, you will refine your studies even further by taking more technically specialized courses specific to solar energy. You can learn about solar resource assessment, thermal- and electric-derived solar conversion technologies, hybridized solar systems design, and social/policy context of solar system project design.
You will take 11 credits of core program courses and 12 credits in the solar energy option. In consultation with your program adviser, you will select an additional 6 credits from an array of electives offered in conjunction with other program options including bioenergy, wind energy, and sustainability management and policy. You will then complete your studies with the 3-credit capstone experience.
Career Opportunities for Renewable Energy and Sustainability Systems Graduates
