Residency Experiences - Master of Health Administration in Health Policy and Administration
Management Intensives
Two face-to-face management intensives provide you with essential opportunities to develop your leadership competencies through personal interactions with classmates, faculty, and health care leaders. These experiences are designed to enhance your knowledge in key areas such as change leadership, strategic management, performance improvement, organizational design, and collaboration. You will meet in person with your fellow classmates to complete 9 credits of program coursework in two sessions –– one lasting two weeks during the third semester of the program and one lasting one week in the final week of the seventh semester in State College, Pennsylvania. In addition to classroom components, these face-to-face sessions will include interactions with industry leaders and faculty in program-sponsored events such as site visits and panel discussions, allowing you to better network with other professionals in the field to learn from others’ experiences and expertise.
Attendance at these face-to-face learning experiences is required. The program will cover the room and board during these on-site experiences; you must arrange and pay for your own travel to the management intensives.
Independent Study
The online MHA program also includes a one-credit independent study during the fourth semester. The independent study is designed in consultation with the lead faculty member and is most often project based. The project is structured to expose you to focus areas (finance, marketing, HR, strategic planning) that are of interest to you. We expect most students to complete this project within their current organization.
