ART 010 Introduction to Visual Studies
Introduction to visual studies; pictorial space and the principles of visual organization.

ART 020 Introduction to Drawing
Introductory experience in making of art through drawing media; designed for nonmajors seeking general overview of studio practice.

ART 100 Concepts and Creation in the Visual Arts
A study of the personal and cultural foundations of artistic creation and practice of creative production in the art studio.

Fundamental Course: Second Level (Choose one)
ART 201 Intro to Digital Arts: Computer Graphics
An introduction to the interdisciplinary application of basic aesthetic principles and technical skills related to digital imaging, including relevant hardware and software applications. Through completion of the course, students will gain basic competence in the use of digital cameras, scanners, and appropriate software necessary for the production of digital works of art and design.

ART 203 Fundamentals of Web Design Principles
An introduction to the study of basic aesthetic principles, design standards, and technical skills related to web design. Through completion of the course, students will gain competence in the use and application of appropriate software and design standards relevant to the production of web-based works of art and design.

The prerequisite for ART 203 has been waived. ART 201 is not required in order to take ART 203.

ART 211Y

Introduction to Digital Art and Design Criticism
Examines the conventions, language, practices, and aesthetics used by digital artists and designers and the social and cultural implications that they and their works have for society with regard for the contexts of politics, philosophy, economics, race, gender, and technological development. Critical and creative thinking and expression are given primary emphasis in class activities and assignments.

OR

Introduction to Digital Art and Design Criticism
An introduction to the language, aesthetics, and cultural impacts of digital art and design in contemporary society.

Though ENGL 015 isn't a prerequisite for ART 211Y, this course is writing-intensive, and students should be comfortable in their writing before taking the course. ART 211Y fulfills the Diversity requirement and Writing Across the Curriculum requirement.

ART 302 Digital Portfolio Elements
This course utilizes relevant digital tools for the completion of more involved projects that may ultimately be included in the students' digital portfolio. Through completion of the course, students will gain increased ability and independence in the application of relevant digital tools. The structure of the assignments and overall course will prepare and guide the students toward increased professionalism.

Prerequisite: ART 201 or ART 203

Concluding Experience (3 credits)
ART 402 Portfolio Design and Professional Practices
The course provides opportunities for students to learn about the practical application of professional practices and portfolio development tools specific to careers that require knowledge of digital art and design principles and culminates in the development of a professional-quality creative portfolio.
