Course Description

Art 201 is a course introducing digital art, design, and new media concepts using graphic applications on the computer.

There are no prerequisites for the course.

Remarks

Students are required to view Lynda.com videos using QuickTime. These videos are free to Penn State students. For students not planning to move into the New Media area, the CS6 Design Standard software is suitable. If you plan to move into the New Media area, CS6 Design Premium suite is recommended for this area of concentration.  For students who plan to graduate this semester, please communicate your intent to graduate to your instructor. This will alert your instructor to the need to submit your final grade in time to meet the published graduation deadlines.

Software Requirements

Requires: Students will need CS5, CS5.5 or CS6 Design Standard OR Premium (PC or MAC) software. Students residing in the United States may purchase the CS6 software license and media through the Penn State Computer Store at http://computerstore.psu.edu. Students will need to have their nine-digit PSU ID to purchase the software. International students can purchase the software package at Journeyed.com (www.journeyed.com) or a vendor of their choice. QuickTime 7.5 (free download) is also required. A 30 day trial version of CS6 Design software can be downloaded from the Adobe website, however, this access time frame will not allow you to complete the course. The education discount for the software is available not only at the Penn State Computer Store but also through many online vendors, JourneyEd, Amazon, etc.
