Course Description

Systematic approach to requirements acquisition, specification, design and implementation of geospatial information systems.

Strong writing skills are recommended for this course. If English is not your native language, it is important that you read additional information regarding English language proficiency before registering for this course.

Remarks

Geography 583 is a required course in the Penn State Master of GIS degree program. The course demonstrates the uniqueness of geospatial system design in a succession of related projects. Projects require students to confront realistic problem scenarios that cultivate the skills and understanding required to effectively complete a geospatial system specification, design, and implementation. Particular attention is given to system design methods that can be applied in a wide range of system contexts. Students completing this course are able to develop a comprehensive system design plan that takes into account current technologies as well as emerging technology trends.

The prerequisite of GEOG 484 is waived for this course.
