Course Description

Internship in day/residential school setting under supervision of field supervisor and University faculty.

Remarks

This course is part of the Special Education Supervisory Certificate and students must be in the program to take this course. Under the supervision of a local mentor and Penn State Faculty, students enrolled in SPLED 595C will perform functions required of special education supervisors in LEAs, private schools, or intermediate units. Among the requirements are job shadowing, self-evaluation and improvement plans, clinical supervision of a peer and development,implementation and evaluation of a staff development episode. Students must secure written permission from an authorized administrator (principal, superintendent, special education director) to perform the activities on site. There are five graded activities that consist of a self-evaluation and improvement plan and evaluation, job shadowing analysis and report, clinical supervision diary, clinical supervision conference video, and staff development video and report.
