Remarks
EARTH 591 is a required course in the Master of Education in Earth Science Program. It represents the culmination of the program. Students, working with an academic adviser who is a member of the graduate faculty, will plan, develop, and complete a project that applies and extends the knowledge and skills gained in the formal coursework of the program. EARTH 591 provides insight into the essence and process of current scientific research, while deepening students' understanding of a specific topic of their choosing. Students will practice transforming the results of their own investigations into modules that can then be taught to others. At the successful completion of this course, students will have designed and carried out, in consultation with an adviser, a project that appropriately demonstrates both content knowledge and pedagogical skills at an advanced level. EARTH 591 will be conducted entirely on the World Wide Web. There will be no set class meeting times, but students will be required to make regularly scheduled progress reports as well as complete responsible conduct of research training. A course Web site, located at
https://www.e-education.psu.edu/earth591/, provides the primary instructional materials for the course.Schedule This Course
