Remarks
SOC 467 is the same course as CRIM 467. This course will examine the existence, purpose and function of law(s) in our society. We will examine sociological theories of law, i.e., how law is created, what it does/doesn't do, how it acts to control dissent, to resolve disputes, and as an agent of social change. We will also debate some controversial legal issues keeping in mind our theoretical background. This class will have 10 weekly lessons. Students will be expected to participate in an online discussion twice each week. There will be 10 weekly quizzes. Students will work in a group to prepare for a debate during the last four weeks of class. For students who plan to graduate this semester, please communicate your intent to graduate to your instructor. This will alert your instructor to the need to submit your final grade in time to meet the published graduation deadlines.Schedule This Course
