The Penn State iMBA program helps train the next generation of senior officers. A key component of the online degree is the corporate residency that all students must complete. This residency is structured to provide direct benefits to the corporation and to the students. The iMBA program conducts two residencies in a year — one in May and the other in August. We are accepting applications from companies who wish to participate in our residency program.

The students first study the company externally, similar to Wall Street analysts, for a period of six weeks. They then travel to the company’s location to interact with officials and tour the operations, which completes an eight-week process of assessing the company’s competitive position, financial performance, organizational structure, and stated mission. The assessment concludes with students presenting a set of strategic alternatives for the company. Penn State handles all of the residency costs, and the company is expected only to invest some time with the executives and host a company tour, if feasible.

With a Penn State iMBA residency, you have the opportunity for approximately 50 consultants to look at your corporation with fresh eyes. The students are divided into teams and each group develops a 100–120 page report, which will be sent to you at the end of the term. Some of the corporations who have previously hosted residencies include Godiva, QVC, Michelin, EQT, Bayer Materials Science, and Ruskin. A number of the CEOs from these companies would be happy to speak with you, should you have any questions. You may also contact Dr. Ash Deshmukh, the chair of the program, if you would like to learn more.
