Student Status

Your student status at Penn State determines a variety of things, including, but not limited to, the number of courses you can register for at one time, your eligibility for admission and financial aid, your grade deferral procedures, and your steps for dropping a course. The chart below explains the various student statuses at Penn State and can help you determine where you fit. Contact us with questions about your student status.  

If You Are a Student Who … Your Student Status Is…

has been officially accepted by the Undergraduate Admissions Office into any Penn State adult nontraditional degree program at the bachelor's or associate degree level. (All World Campus bachelor's and associate degree programs are adult nontraditional degree programs.)

Adult Nontraditional Degree
has been officially accepted by the Undergraduate Admissions Office into a Penn State traditional degree program at a Penn State location other than World Campus. If you are on official leave of absence from the University, you may still enroll in a World Campus distance education course and continue to be enrolled as a degree student. Degree
holds a high school diploma or its equivalent and is seeking to pursue a degree program but does not have the criteria required for admission to Penn State as a degree student. Provisional
has been dropped from degree or provisional status by Penn State because of unsatisfactory scholarship. Nondegree Conditional
is taking courses but has not been formally accepted into a Penn State degree program. This includes degree students from other universities taking World Campus courses and World Campus undergraduate certificate program students. Nondegree Regular
has been officially admitted to the Penn State Graduate School and has been accepted by a Penn State academic department into a graduate degree program. Graduate Degree
holds a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and has been approved by the Penn State Graduate School to take graduate-level courses (but does not plan to pursue a graduate degree). This includes students enrolled in World Campus postbaccalaureate certificate programs and courses. Graduate Nondegree
