Penn State invites students living outside of the United States to take Penn State World Campus courses and apply to World Campus certificate and degree programs. There are currently World Campus students residing on all seven continents (including Antarctica), representing a large number of countries.
We encourage you to review the important facts below if you are an international student considering Penn State World Campus for your educational needs. You should confirm your ability to use international mail and Internet services effectively before registering for a course. If you have additional questions after reviewing the information, please contact us.
Language Proficiency
All Penn State business, including course instruction, is conducted in English; a proficiency in English is required for all students. If you wish to apply to Penn State but your native language is not English, you must complete the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam and score at least a 550 on the paper version, a 213 on the computer version, or an 80 on the online version, with a 23 on the speaking section. Learn more about the TOEFL exam. Scores from TOEFL exams taken within the last two years will be accepted.
Technology Requirements
Each program has specific technology requirements, which are listed on the individual online degree or online certificate program pages. Graduate-level programs typically require higher levels of technology and more specific software than undergraduate programs. You should have an active Penn State e-mail account and reliable connection to the Internet for successful completion of courses. Not all courses will work on a Macintosh platform.
Applying to a Program
Admissions requirements (including evaluation of transcripts and transfer credits) for undergraduate degree programs are available on the Undergraduate Admissions Web page for International Applicants.
Information about admissions requirements for graduate programs can be found on the Graduate School Programs of Study Web page. Once on the page, click on the "Search by Campus" drop-down menu and select "Penn State World Campus."
Important: Some of our graduate-level business programs (e.g., iMBA and Project Management) require travel to the United States to fulfill particular degree requirements.
Tuition and Fees Payment
Payments from students living outside the United States must be in U.S. dollars, drawn on a U.S. bank.
