Honor Societies and Dean's List

Honor Societies

Almost all Penn State World Campus adult learners are juggling multiple personal and professional responsibilities on top of taking our courses. Many are tackling seemingly insurmountable obstacles in their lives. In spite of those obstacles some achieve the levels of scholarly excellence required for the academic honors listed below makes us especially Penn State proud.

Alpha Sigma Lambda

Pi Delta Chi is the World Campus chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda, a national honor society that partners with colleges and universities to celebrate the scholarship and leadership of full- and part-time undergraduate adult students in higher education.

Dean's List

If you're interested in becoming an undergraduate World Campus student, you will have the opportunity to be named to the Penn State Dean's List, provided you meet the following enrollment criteria:

Full-time Students

You must have a one-semester grade-point average of 3.50 or above and be enrolled in 12 or more credits for fall or spring; 9 or more credits for summer.

Part-time Students

You must be enrolled in 12 credits or less each semester for two or more consecutive semesters to be considered a part-time student for purposes of Dean's List recognition. Your grades in the courses across these combined semesters must result in a grade-point average of 3.50 or higher.

Your Dean's List status as a part-time student will be recorded for the most recently completed semester in which you met all cumulative criteria. Once awarded, the calculation for additional recognition begins all over again.

All Students

Satisfactory-unsatisfactory courses and audit courses are not included in the determination of grade point average or credit load.

If you complete 12 credits in a given semester (full time student) in addition schedule satisfactory-unsatisfactory courses and/or audit courses, you must have a 3.5 or higher in the 12 credits to be eligible for the Dean's List.

If you complete 12 credits or less each semester for two or more consecutive semesters (part time student) in addition schedule satisfactory-unsatisfactory courses and/or audit courses during these semesters, you must have a 3.5 or higher in the 12 credits to be eligible for the Dean's List.

The University Registrar will provide a list of students eligible for the Dean's List to each college and to the Division of Undergraduate Studies each semester. Your grade report and academic record will both note Dean's List status for the semester in which you earned it.

Important: A student found in violation of academic integrity is ineligible for appointment to the Dean's List for the semester — or, for part-time students, the 12-credit cumulative period — during which the violation occurred.
