Faculty

Among the instructors of the nursing management certificate program are the following faculty members:

Dolores O'Hara, M.N.Ed., RN, CNE

Areas of expertise include adult health, complementary/alternative therapies, service learning, women's health, and nursing management.

Jo Anne Carrick, M.S.N., RN, CEN

Ms. Carrick is an instructor in nursing at Penn State Shenango and has been a member of the University faculty for the past 18 years. She earned her diploma in nursing at Saint Francis Hospital School of Nursing and her bachelor of science degree in nursing at Penn State. Ms. Carrick continued on to earn a master of science degree in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh. She is currently in the doctoral program in administration and leadership studies in higher education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Teaching Experience

  • Is the primary instructor for the nursing management series courses at Penn State Shenango
  • Teaches 400-level courses for RN students at Penn State Shenango
  • Is an active member of the National Ski Patrol, as a course instructor
  • Maintains a clinical practice in emergency nursing; holds national certification in this nursing specialty

Administrative Experience

  • Served as the lead faculty member in the Penn State School of Nursing
  • Was responsible for the curriculum development of the nursing management series courses
  • Held positions as a nurse manager and director of nursing

Jane Trainor, D.Ed., M.S.N., B.S.N.

Dr. Trainor is a semiretired assistant professor of nursing in the Penn State School of Nursing, after 29 years of full-time status. She earned her diploma in nursing at Mary Immaculate Hospital School of Nursing and her bachelor of science degree in nursing at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Trainor continued on to earn a master's degree at New York University and completed a doctoral program in adult education at Penn State Harrisburg in 2000. She has worked in medical-surgical nursing, orthopedics, and mental health.

Teaching Experience

  • Has taught courses in nursing management, nursing research, school nursing, psychiatric nursing, and the RN to B.S. program at Penn State
  • Has been educating registered nursing (RN) students since 1986
  • Taught clinicals at the Medical Center, Veterans Administration Hospital, and the Polyclinic Hospital

Administrative Experience

  • Coordinated the RN to B.S. program, first at Hershey and later at the Penn State Capital campus
  • Developed new courses for the Penn State School of Nursing
  • Initiated nursing honor society (Beta Sigma chapter) meetings in her local area

Connie Hall, D.Ed., M.S.N., B.S.N.

Dr. Hall is an instructor in nursing at Penn State Fayette.
