With support from the Association for Institutional Research (AIR) and the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), the Penn State Higher Education program and the World Campus offer courses leading to a graduate certificate in institutional research. This 18-credit program, designed to provide students with the skills that support institutional planning and policy formation, has been created for:
- in-career professionals
- institutional researchers
- graduate students
- persons employed in related fields
The program faculty will provide advisement based on a program profile completed by the student. With faculty approval, individual courses may be waived, based upon prior academic work. Basic applied statistics is a prerequisite for admission to the certificate program. We offer STAT 500 for those who do not have a working knowledge of basic statistics, but other statistics courses are acceptable. Certificate credits may be awarded for--in addition to the courses for this program--participation in AIR Summer Institutes, Penn State assessment workshops, and the AIR/NCES Data Policy Institute in Washington, D.C.
