Curriculum

Enrolling in one of the 11- to 13-credit hotel, restaurant, and institutional management professional development programs gives you control of your learning experience. The steps and choices outlined here will assist you in choosing a path specifically tailored to your present job duties and, depending on your initiative, can help you work toward future professional goals and an associate degree in hotel, restaurant, and institutional management.

STEP ONE (3 credits)

Start with a single course.
    HRIM 201  Introduction to Management in the Hospitality Industry

STEP TWO (10 more credits)

Complete the course work to earn a Hospitality Professional Development Certificate.
    HRIM 250  Quantity Food Production Analysis*
    HRIM 260W  Hospitality Supervision Seminar

Then choose your emphasis for your remaining course:
    Restaurant/Food Service Emphasis or
    HRIM 305  Restaurant Management*

    Institutional Emphasis or
    HRIM 319  Hospitality Facilities Management*

    Lodging/Hotel Emphasis
    HRIM 380  Hotel Management

STEP THREE (9 more credits)

Build on one of the professional development certificates to earn a Hospitality Management Certificate.
    HRIM 204  Hotel and Restaurant Marketing and Merchandising
    HRIM 335 Hospitality Financial Accounting
    HRIM elective course

STEP FOUR (38 more credits)

Earn an associate degree in hotel, restaurant, and institutional management.
    General Education Courses (15 credits)

    ENGL 015 Rhetoric and Composition    
    ENGL 202D Effective Writing: Business Writing
    NUTR 151 Nutrition Component of Food Service System
       or NUTR 251 Introductory Principles of Nutrition
