Graduate Certificate in Geriatric Nursing Education
Designed to prepare nursing faculty to teach geriatric nursing
Faculty shortages at nursing schools continue to limit student capacity at a time when the need for nurses is steadily increasing. The shortage is especially striking in the area of geriatric nursing. The number of faculty to train and teach geriatric nurses is inadequate to meet the anticipated demand of the aging population.
To address this critical need, Penn State World Campus, in partnership with Penn State's School of Nursing and the Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence, developed a graduate certificate in geriatric nursing education. This certificate program is designed to prepare persons with a master’s degree in nursing to:
- retool to become geriatric nursing faculty and educational leaders
- train nursing faculty who will go on to teach registered nurses at the associate or bachelor’s degree level
- instruct nursing educators who can transform the environment in which geriatric nursing is taught
Flexible, Convenient, Entirely Online
- flexible 12-credit course schedule
- interactive online setting
- access to Penn State’s vast academic resources
Enrolling in the online certificate program allows you to earn a graduate certificate without having to relocate to a residential Penn State campus.
A Certificate of Distinction
Since its founding in 1855, Penn State has established itself as one of the nation’s most respected universities. Penn State is a pioneer in distance education, with a support system designed specifically for students who are not located on physical campuses.
The graduate certificate program in geriatric nursing education is part of Penn State's School of Nursing and the John A. Hartford Foundation Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence at Penn State. Note: Enrollees in the program must have already earned a master's degree in nursing.
