Improve Your Literacy Abilities

Penn State's online certificate program in family literacy is a 15-credit program designed to meet the professional development needs of persons working in a variety of literacy education settings. The program can help you:

  • earn college credits that can be applied toward a bachelor's degree in adult literacy
  • expand your knowledge and skills in the field of literacy
  • increase your earning potential

Choose Your Track

Get started with one of 3 specialized tracks:

  • Children's Education
  • Adult Literacy
  • Parental Involvement

Then advance to the online certificate in family literacy by completing the 2 remaining courses. The online certificate program in family literacy offers great flexibility with courses that have multiple purposes and meet state and national professional education requirements. A Program That Can Suit Your Needs

Students taking the family literacy program at the postbaccalaureate level can apply course work to the following degree programs: 

• M.Ed. in Adult Education 
• M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction—Teacher Leadership
• M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction—Children's Literature
• Other bachelor's or master's degree through Penn State or other institutions (Speak with a Student Services adviser to see which programs accept these credits.)
