The faculty who teach in this program come from a wide variety of professional disciplines and are active leaders in health care treatment and research. In fact, eight academic departments at six different colleges, located on three Penn State campuses, have collaborated to produce the highly interdisciplinary curriculum of the certificate in disaster preparedness.
Robert A. Cherry, M.D., FACS
Program Chair
Dr. Cherry is the trauma program medical director for the Penn State Shock Trauma Center, and chief of the Section of Trauma and Critical Care in the Department of Surgery at Penn State's Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. During the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks he was the trauma director at a municipal hospital in New York; subsequently he served on the Regional Disaster Planning Subcommittee of the New York City Regional Trauma Advisory Committee. Dr. Cherry actively collaborates with the Homeland Security/Defense Educational Consortium and serves on the advisory committee for the Pennsylvania Office of Public Health Preparedness.
