Graduate Certificate in Bioterrorism Preparedness (15 credits)

Students admitted to the program are expected to complete HLS 410 and HLS 510 during the first two semesters in the program.

HLS 410 Public Health Preparedness for Disaster and Terrorist Emergencies I
Discusses specific threats (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear), and explores how public health professionals and first responders can prepare for and respond to threats and emergencies related to disasters and terrorism.

Public Health Preparedness for Disaster and Terrorist Emergencies II
Reviews the principles and challenges of disaster planning and coordination from a local, state, and federal perspective.

HLS 520 Agricultural Biosecurity: Protecting a Key Infrastructure
Explores the intentional and unintentional threats to the agriculture-food system, history, and current approaches for safeguarding this key infrastructure.

Public Health Evaluation of Disasters and Bioterrorism
Introduces students to the design of exposure assessment and health-effect studies applicable to disasters and terrorism.

HLS 530 Critical Infrastructure Protection of Health Care Delivery Systems
Examines the complexities involved in the protection of health care delivery systems affected during a natural disaster or terrorist attack, including the impact of disrupted transport systems, computer and Internet security, communications, energy supply, industry, and governmental institutions.
