Leader in international online education to conduct learning session
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A demonstration of the Learning Activities Management System (LAMS), a software tool that allows teachers to design, manage and deliver online learning activities while providing an interactive environment for students in which to do their work, will be held for faculty and staff at the Penn State World Campus, located in the Outreach building, on October 12.
Dr. James Dalziel, director of Macquarie University’s E-learning Centre of Excellence—an international focal point for e-learning infrastructure and standards development located in Sydney, Australia—will conduct the demonstration. The demonstration will be followed by a question and answer discussion. Dalziel, who is also founder of the LAMS Foundation, can address a number of topics related to learning design, including educational technology, open source software and open content sharing.
LAMS is a learning design, authoring and activity sequencing tool that can be used in a variety of learning environments, including face to face and distance education; it can be applied to not only school and university settings but also to corporate and vocational training.

The presentation and discussion will be held from 9:30 am to 12:00 on Oct. 12 in 121G Outreach Building. The demonstration will include a hands-on component, so participants are invited to bring their laptops, if they have one. Space is limited; please RSVP to Nancy Thomas at njt2@psu.edu or 863-5941.
