Penn State captures 10 awards for faculty, staff and outreach programs

Penn State faculty, staff and outreach programs were honored with 10 awards by the Mid-Atlantic Region of the University Continuing Education Association (UCEA), the principle organization for continuing higher education in the United States.

Winners are:

  • Dr. Michael G. Moore, professor of education, founding director of the American Center for Study of Distance Education and editor of the American Journal of Distance Education, was honored with the Outstanding Mid-Atlantic Region Leadership Award.
  • James F. Campbell, director of Outreach Operations for the Division of Continuing Education, Penn State Outreach, who retired Aug. 31, was honored with the UCEA Distinguished Service Key and Certificate.
  • The Penn State McKeesport Continuing Education/U.S. Steel Mon Valley Works Mechanical Learner Program, a workforce development training program, received a Business/Industry/Government Linkage Award. Staff members included Susan C. Lewis, Ray Stohner, Charles Yaskanich and John J. McCluskey.
  • Indigenous Knowledges: Transforming the Academy, an international conference that brought together practitioners, scholars and educators to address the impact of the academy on preserving the world's indigenous knowledge base, received a Noncredit Program Development Award. Staff members included Pamela A. Driftmier, Babs Bengtson, Audrey Maretzki, Ladislaus Semali, Lisa Clapper, Mark Bernhard, Tammy Golden, Nancy Eckard, Vickie Stephens, Beth Beyers, Brian McCullough and Barbara Heasley.
  • Children and Autism: Time is Brain, an educational documentary video highlighting families with autistic children and Applied Behavior Analysis therapy, produced by Penn State Public Broadcasting, received a Noncredit Program Development Award. Staff members included Marie Hornbein, Patty Satalia, Tracy Vosburgh and Bill Wallace.
  • The Conference Center at Penn State Great Valley Campaign, which met its campaign goals for this fiscal year, received a Marketing and Promotion Campaign Award. Staff members included Tarra Campbell, Christine Moyer, Patty McFadden, Donna Woodruff and Elayna McReynolds.
  • WPSU-FM 50th Anniversary campaign to raise awareness of Penn State Public Broadcasting's long history of radio services received a Marketing and Promotion Campaign Award. Staff members included Carol Wonsavage, Elizabeth Bechtel, Stacy Derr and Sue Bryant.
  • The Paralegal Certificate Series Campaign, which increased program enrollment, received a Marketing and Promotion Campaign Award. Staff members included Andrew J. Petkac, James Fong, Marie Young, Brian Mizikar, David Maser and Ed Donovan.
  • The Penn State World Campus iMBA Prospective Student Web Conferences, which answered students' questions and helped them determine if the program was right for them, received a Marketing and Promotion Electronic Award. Staff members included John Fizel, Joseph Sanders, Rita Graef, Martin Lopong, Bob Selfridge and Brian Mizikar.
  • Penn State Outreach Magazine: A Reengineering, which resulted in a more reader-friendly, lean and tightly focused biannual publication showcasing the University's engagement and outreach scholarship activities, received a Marketing and Promotions Print Publication Award. Staff members included Tracey D. Huston, Melissa W. Kaye, Deborah A. Benedetti, Brian Mizikar and Karen Wing.
