Penn State To Provide Education and Training Services to HHS Employees

The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded Penn State an agreement to become an education and training provider to HHS University, a new academic partnership initiative to serve the learning and professional development needs of that department's 65,000 federal employees worldwide.
Penn State is one of five institutions partnering with HHS U. The others are American Graduate University, the University of Maryland University College, Bethune Cookman College, and the Instructional and Performance Technology Program at Boise State University.
"These academic partnerships are a new tool and benefit for our employees, to help them access the latest in their fields of interest as well as the latest in education and training technology," said HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson. "All of the universities involved are committed to innovative learning technologies that will enable HHS employees to take courses online at their convenience."
Penn State is participating in the partnership by providing Management Development Programs and Services and educational opportunities through Penn State World Campus. Penn State's participation will make available to federal employees Management Development's workshops and seminars, as well as online degree programs from the World Campus, the University's distance education initiative.
"Penn State is superbly positioned to provide just-in-time knowledge to federal employees at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services," said Dr. Craig D. Weidemann, vice president for Penn State Outreach. "We are delighted to be a partner with that institution."
Employees can access information on these partnerships including registration procedures and links to school catalogues to choose their courses at http://learning.hhs.gov beginning this summer. for 25 years, was recognized for his exemplary leadership and integrity, and for maintaining a sense of humor and optimistic stance that makes people want to work with him toward important goals.
